Feedback, Studio Brief 2 Final

IMAGES OF FEEDBACK COMMENTS

Overall the feedback from my crit was very positive, may people understood my concept and thought it worked as an idea. This is really useful because i was really worried that it wouldn't be but because of the way i displayed with an explanation and the posters it i feel it worked, this is mentioned in my feedback as someone has said the statistics reinforce the information and my concept which reflect they feel the same as me. One of my questions i asked was if the concept was understandable and every answer i got reinforced it did which was a great results for me, i really wanted to show my ideas and feel that this positive feedback shows my ideas worked. An issue i had was clarified by my feedback which i feel shows the strength of the crits and how useful they are to influence our design decisions. The second idea i wanted to know was did the posters work as a set, was the text readable and did it work aesthetically as well as just a concept, someone pointed out the idea that it let wholes in my work which i have explained early in my design work. This shows that i might need to include more information in my presentation next time, this also links to someone saying health to the is perfect so my text doesn't work but if i'd included my research i think it would have been explained. The idea someone pointed out they didn't feel it reflected health to them was a major point i wanted to receive, i wanted to to prove that health is different for everyone and how most people agreed with my idea but not everyone, its different its personal so people will have different opinions on the type. By disagreeing then enhance my ideas and the reason i didn't create a typeface based around healthy body images or shape.
Some feedback said my type was healthy, this works with the idea i feel that handwritten text is normally more friendly and casual than digitally perfected type, this is a really useful fact i can use further on in my work.

FEEDBACK BULLETED

- concept is understandable
- outlined shape creates wholes in words
-its readable and legible
- works for the poster and as a set
-really like the concept
-very serious message but seems friendly
-good for raising awareness
-everyone has different views on healthy and how it should look
-poster might be too busy as a set
-hand rendered type works really well over all
- clear development work
- nice different view on the word healthy
-nice interpretation
-solid letter forms
-missing letter refers to something being missing, the chemicals in the brain not being there.
-portrays mental health
-perfect would lose the whole idea of the type.

CONCLUSION

Looking at the feedback from my project i'm very happy with my results, the audience understood all my design decisions and showed that the text did what i wanted and portray my ideas/aims in a simple yet effective way. This brief terrified me at first but over time i think i've used my research to really influence my idea and create a typeface that give a friendly imperfect look on mental health. Looking back at my developed idea i would have experiment more with lower case letterforms too and created a full set if i'd had time but i felt the extended research i did instead enhanced my project so was worth it, i tried to create a typeface tat was influenced by all aspects of the research in the project and hope that over all i did this. This brief helped me understand the ideas behind typefaces and how they are just used but they look nice, that have aims and concepts behind them which is why they are create for a set purpose and this a major factor when designing. Idea are a foundations for good graphic design and this project has allowed me to step pit pf my comfort zone and do something i've never tried before and hopefully helped me create a typeface that can work for my brief and ideas. Over this project i have used both manually and digital design and compare the results to see which fit my brief best, i feel this is a very productive way to think and help me explore different ways of working. i usually work manually as it allows me to get my idea down easier and you can make it less perfect than perfect it digitally, this project has shown my the importance of both processes so i will continue to do this throughout my other briefs. i feel really happy with my final designed typeface, i see issues it can create like the gaps and how it may be confusing and will use this to make sure next time i experiment with different scaled poster to see how the size effect legibility. The theory behind the typeface design allowed be to get a starting point and work on the typeface after, this is a useful thing to do when i'm stuck for ideas because it gives me knowledge into how professional work and the rules that stick too.

Evaluation, Studio Brief 1 Final

EVALUATION

For this brief we had to create a logo for a shop we had picked, the logo had to be for a international shop so the idea had to be multi-lingual and work for a world wide company, I felt that the idea of the pen shop that worked best was the idea of the calligraphy’s style because this is obviously a Pen shop without having to be read. The overall idea was to reflect the aims of the pen shop as elegant, expensive yet bold and strong as it’s a historic British company that has been running for years that started in the uk and want to reflect this. The company currently uses navy blue to show this and I feel that keeping this would work well because it’s the same colour of ink as well as seem as a strong positive colour that shows wealth and status which is a main factor for the company. When I visited the shop for my research I felt that the current brand uses its displays to attracts a certain audience that it appeals too but because its so based around posh high classy ideas this put off a larger audience. Because it currently puts off the audience I feel the second design bring the company down to a younger and wide range off people, it seems more friendly and attractive because its more casual and less stuck up. This is an idea I feel will work for the brief and will help the company raise a different audience and widen the customer base creating more sales, but I have created 2 final ideas in case the client didn’t want to change the audience and wanted to keep the same, I wanted to make sure I had ideas that would work for the clients needs and wouldn’t leave them without a design. The handwritten styles is inspire by current trends but an old fashioned style, this mean its will work over time because it not going to go out of style because of the classic elegant nature create by the handwritten calligraphy style combined with the simple text. I’m happy with the final logo over all because in my opinion it reflect my research combined and I developed my ideas to explore the best outcome, I looked into most aspect in depth and this effected my design decisions which made my over all outcome the best I could produce.
