CANNONS/RULES
in graphic deisgns there are set of rules that help create modern organized design, the ideas and theories behind them have been used for year by many different designer successful but is there a over riding why to break the rules which innovate new design?
balance - arrange elements so everything is equal, no one element is heavier than the other.
proximity / unity - the bond created between the elements and the page, how they work together to enhance/support the other, how close or far apart the images or object are.
alignment - how type and graphics is aligned on a page in relations to each other can make a layout easier to look at, brings order to chaos and gives excitement to stale design.
repetition / consistency - showing a design element more than once and consistent use of type/ graphics styles within a document shows a reader where to go and helps them navigate your designs and layouts safely. Good design will utilises the principles of repetition, consistency, and unity in page design.
fibonacci sequence ratio 8:13 - this idea links to golden section, this is a idea that a designer can create a perfect image using the sequence in the layout. This sequence is not only evident within design but also nature.
CANNONS
canons - these are essentially principles of page layout design that are used to measure and describe proportions, margins and print area as shown within the examples below. They are created by artist then used to inspire different designs by everyone, mathematical they show how to create the 'ideal' layout.
