503 Studio brief 1 - Responsive, In Cold Blood, Final Changes
After this design was selected as the piece to be taken forward for this brief final development of the colour was experimented with. This is as the book is a classic in the true crime field and was published in the 1960's, the book should aim to reflect this decade and time frame as to set the tone for the story line.
Final Changes -
503 Studio brief 1 - Responsive, In Cold Blood, Mock Up Feedback
After 5 main ideas where mocked up feedback was asked for, this was to get feedback on which idea and visual the audeince felt fitted the tone of voice, concept, genre and the target market penguin aimed for.
Interview - One of the idea for this brief was to visual reflect the accuracy nature of the publications information, the book is seen as the more true well researched crime book and in a effort to break away from common true crime book cover style. The cover is a interview style document expressing the turning point in the content when the criminal has been caught. This style informs the audeince of slight parts of the book without giving away to much detail of the crime to the reasoning in a intrigue the audeince.
Vintage Style -Research into book covers from this genre showed how the book covers can he heavily influenced by the imagery of the criminals. This idea takes imagery of the murders and depicts their death at the end of the publication. Both the criminals get hung therefore this visually shows this via digital college style but this was done in a way that didn't directly reflect the gruesome of the hanging, but showed it via the use of broken neck photography and a illustrative rope. This is aim interesting the audeince as they be intrigue by the reason for the hanging.
3 Layer of Type - The writing style is a heavy focus of the clients aim for the book cover, a feature of the book that makes it the content clear and engaging for the readers is the use of a range of points of view. The book follows the points of view and storylines of the victims friends, the police/media and the criminals. This is one of the only true crime book that explores the subject area to this degree, consequently this is one of the reasons for the books success. This cover would reflect the 3 stories give by the different accounts of the story by visually expressing the title in 3 different type styles.
College Ideas - These cover designs is based around the in-depth research the style of writing style, and in-depth research conducted. Truman collected a wide range different media, police files and interviews to achieve the books famous accuracy, which became one of the major seeing point and reasons the book is celebrated. These cover ideas are inspired by this process, celebrating the combination of the different research mediums via a college style outcome using similar or the documents Truman would have studied. Images from the victims, criminals, maps of the destination, newspaper articles, crime reports, interviews have all be collected and manually college together than scanned in for this design. The cover of the book aims to visually represent the writing style and show how the combination of source material complied the more interesting cover outcome.
Feedback on the range of ideas as a whole allowed the crit to analyse with outcome was more suitable for the brief, having mocked up the ideas allowed the audience to visually see the ideas in the style they would be presented to the client. this also so the client the idea process.
One of the feedback areas was focused around if the other market agreed with my ethical stance on not using the victim imagery but using the criminal imagery. This was done as the imagery it's self is very bold and representative of the criminals personalities. Including imagery from the crime it's self, photography directly ties to the book to the non fiction field as it expresses the genre of the book to the audience via showing the relevance to real life and in the inclusion of the actual criminals.

This it was felt by the audience that due to the use of the criminal imagery which only is powerful and then the removable of the eyes this had the most dramatic effect on the audience. This is design that should be taken forward as it expressed the tone of the book the most accurately whist representing the writing style in a modern trend way that relates fundamentally with the audience to crime.

what - A woman suffragette was Leeds-born activist Leonora Cohen. Like so many suffragettes, she lived in middle class comfort but was unafraid of breaking the law to publicise her cause.
One Saturday in February 1913, an elegant woman entered the Jewel House at the Tower of London, this was Leonora, she removed an iron bar from her coat and threw it at a glass showcase containing insignia of the Order of Merit, beefeaters immediately forced the woman to the ground and arrested her. Wrapped around the bar was a piece of paper stating: "This is my protest against the Government's treachery to the working women of Great Britain."
She was charged with causing unlawful and malicious damage to an amount exceeding £5 and was bailed for trial by jury. By the time Leonora returned home to her husband and young son in Leeds her story was headline news. Her courage and articulacy when she conducted her own defence in the ensuing court case won her much admiration.
ISSUES - she did the action in London, although born in Leeds

503 Responsive Studio brief 2, Collbration Partners
For this collaboration brief the aim is to work with and look for an abstract illustration student/students or film based animation students, this is as these are the main skills and style i lack currently and these are my weakness i my practise therefore working with a creative with in-bodies these will allow me to explore these more to work on them. Also i feel that the combination of the different styles and different creative views will allow a wider range of inspirations, techniques and style to be looked into whilst allowing the group to learn from each other and use each other benefits. The film based animation student is to create something more advertising based, to visualize a tv ad or a ilm ad as this is an area i aim to work in/specialized in the future therefore working and producing a project for this style would fit well with my future aims and portfolio.
The personal aim for this brief is for my personal style/practise to expand into more aesthetically pleasing work. After studying my portfolio there aren't many piece i'm particular proud of the finish or the general style of, therefore this brief being used as a chance to work with someone who focuses more on the look of the piece and visual aesthetics where i can focus on the ideas. Also both these strong point could come together to to create a outcome that embodies both. My personal strength is the ideas processes and coming up with creative concepts therefore finding somewhere who can help me learn how to aesthetically create and produce these idea these would work well whilst allowing to experiment more with print techniques or styles. Also one of the major personal downfalls is branding, or again creative a piece that graphical due to layout ect looks appealing therefore it might be good to also look for more graphic designer to help.
strong points - ideas, research, organization. type design
need work - styles, aesthetics, drawing, visualizing idea, final outcome, portfolio work
Today there is a group session in aim to meet other creatives on the other course to mix with, a slide show will be shown with our work in the lecture hall with all the course work in combination then after we meet in the different rooms to discuss which students are interested to do each brief.
pitcha pitcha slides, are the side can not included any information or facts about the work the work shown need to be the work that 'speaks for it's self', the work that represents me whilst not needing any description. Also to make people want to work with me the work need to be eye catching and visually pleasing as this is what the main focus of the presentation, the work need to be remembered against the mass of others work, to be noticed without any facts/information so it has to be the work that has been professional photographed or have the most professional feel.
need to represent/strengths/interests- type design, type work, print interests, no digital/modern style, hand created type, college experiments
inspirations - need to show interests in animation/video work, non digital/hand made design, collage based, branding. a wide range of inspiration have been included this is to who a wide range of interests so this shows wiliness to explore different mediums.
briefs - the main brief i want to work on would be the Greenall gin brief this is as i have a few idea already from studio brief 1 for this module as well as this brief give chance to explore 'britishness' whilst being very open. As the brief is so open it been this would be a chance to explore techniques styles or mediums i've not tested before explained my personal practise. The other brief have been added as these are brief with more illustration/visually based outcomes, someone set as a style to explore with collaboration partner/partners for this studio brief
meeting exercise-
aims : different course, illustration (abstract/print based), animation (film based animation), graphic design (branding) DIFFERENT TO ME, Greenall Gin brief
At the Greenall's brief table there was only a few people wants to do this brief, these where only graphic design and illustration students. After talking to a few different people i've decide to collaborate with Kate Hulme, a illustration student who focuses on print and has a keen interest in mono print style and more abstracts styles of working. After both talking about our practise we both felt that we could use each other background, type mine, image hers, together to create a effective piece of creative for the client. As we both study different areas and different subjects together we could create a piece that uses both of our speacialsum knowledge yet could also be a good chance to explore the different areas more.
We've agreed to meet next week, both go home read over the brief and think of a few ideas then meet up to discusses these. The mediums of communication we'll use to stay in touch and share work will be facebook and over iMessage, keep update and share any work/idea via these channels and also uses these to plan meets ups. In the first meeting we plan to decided on a time planning set deadlines, these will be set along side any deadline we both have and make sure he final outcome is finished before the dead line on the 23rd of march. The aim is to meet up once a week to show progress and communicate about the brief work but this could different based on any other issues.
we talked first about pattern to print based media production for this brief, this would fit my aim for this group brief perfectly. Kate had the idea of applied patterns or prints to casing or package for this brief, this would be a really good aspect of design i'd like to experiment with so this should be considered more in the brief.
do we still want another person??do we want another graphic designer or animator or illustration student as 3 might be a better number/more spread out work
The personal aim for this brief is for my personal style/practise to expand into more aesthetically pleasing work. After studying my portfolio there aren't many piece i'm particular proud of the finish or the general style of, therefore this brief being used as a chance to work with someone who focuses more on the look of the piece and visual aesthetics where i can focus on the ideas.
