503 Responsive Studio brief 2, Evaluation

This part of the module was a group project, at the start of the brief I was excited but also anxious about working in part of a group. This was a I get very stressed about working being completed before deadline and hate leaving thing to the last minute. Throughout this brief I had to work on this control issue,  we had to work on other people’s time scale rather than just mine. Time management was an issue in our group, and we did leave most of the work to the last minute and large amount of this was due to external issues for member of the group. As a group we tried to work around these issue and it meant that the other members of the group had to  more work to make up for this. This showed how vital communication is in group work, and how technology can help with issues as we worked around these issues using facetime and messaging to get feedback from the group

The benefit of working in a group was the different skills of the different member, we tried to experiment with different areas but also allowed ourselves to do work personally as well. The final campaign shows the different we work we all made and due to this represents the group effort. It was very useful to work with an illustrator as they had skill I couldn’t do as well as knowledge into different aspect of design, even though the course are very similar subject areas the focus is around different aspect of the project.

This brief allowed exploring into how to work a group and how to work around issues out of my control but till to create an effective output that fits the clients brief. The final outcome of this brief created a set of work that showed how I can work with a group successfully for my portfolio. There were times I struggled in the group work but I’ve tired work around these and this show the important of communication, without constant communication about idea and meeting this project wouldn’t have been submitted

503 Responsive Studio brief 1 -, Evaluation

This brief was selected due to personal preferences to advertising and also how to use social medias a form of advertising, this is the subject of my next years works sot completing a project that explored this for this year was really helpful to understand what form of social advertising there are available and how these can be bent to fit the client aims.

Throughout the project the client aims and tone of voice was a major aspect of the design , this was as this is live brief the final outcome could be picked as the winner and use by the client. Also the aim was to find the most unique interesting way to use social media sites and personal knowledge of the target audience to explore ways of advertising which bent to the market preferences. This idea was build around using social platforms and the customer use of them as way to advertising and to connect with the target audience.

The development stage of this brief was the longest process as intended for the final outcome to be functional, i aimed to create a final idea that could visualize my idea to client. As the final product do actually work this made the whole project ore successful so in my opinion was worth the extra time taken. this also allowed content photos of the item to be taken so the client can see how the product will be interacted with by the user.

An issues with the outcome of the brief is that although it promoted the brand ons coal channel to the target audience there is only a little mention of the 'craft cider' aspect of the brand. The unique selling point was the pig rather than the craft cider element which the client highlighted as important this was due to the type effect the snapchat filter when surround the imager. In the professional world a  designer or developer with more knowledge of the software and how it works would have found ways around this. Besides the focus not being on the craft cider aspect of the brief personally i'm really happy with the final outcome of this brief this is due it being a functional campaign feedback form he audience stated they would use.

503 Responsive Studio brief 1 -, Submission

503 Responsive Studio brief 2, Submisson Boards/Submisson

As the deadline for this brief is today the designs board need to be complied for the range of work we've done for the brief to sell our idea to the client via YCN. The submission boards are drastically different to the usually design boards we create for our deadline and as illustration course don't usually do boards for their project past examples where studied for the content that should be applied and tone of voice. This gave us a good idea of the style we needed to do the boards in.

Kieran designed the layout of the boards and as I'd finished my work for the other YCN deadline at this point therefore offered to put the content on the boards and the group would write content between us.

Kate sent over the really good type for the boards do this could be included, but although Kieran said he'd send over the text 2 hours before the deadline he hadn't got round to doing this so i had to write his content instead, otherwise the brief would't had been submitted. I did intent for a group meeting on the day of the deadline to ensure the group where happy with the boards i'd composed and did send over the boards for any final chances or feedback but due to deadline stress the other didn't responded,  as no changed where highlighted i sent in the boards as they were, if i'd waited for feedback we would had not entered the brief in time.

This part of the brief was really stressful for me as i wasn't sure if the group where happy with the final submission due to lack of response but had to send of the boards anyway to fulfill the brief aims. This wasn't that bad for me as i had completed my other brief ages before the deadline so i could focus my time near the deadline on this brief but if i'd still had a large amount of work to do this would have been an issue. This has showed that group work should be given time before the deadline to be finished so the group can give full feedback, i do understand the stress the other members where under and therefor tried to not pressure them as this would have made things worse, so i completed the boards and sent them off.

submission proof -

We had trouble with attendance in our group due to external issues which caused us to become behind with the project compere to our set deadline and this did cause the rest of our group to panic abit. This taught how if someone cant be in the area or around communication is key to keeping them up to date and with work, FaceTime was a good medium to do this. Due to the other members absence some members had to take on extra work to try and finish the campaign in time for the deadline and so we had a submission but in the last week of the brief this did improve as some of the work was completed and the member was available for a final crit and reviews of the work. This brief taught how even if you agree to do certain work as a group due other issues this might not be possible, helping out group member by completing some of their tasks at this point is important to reduce their stresses as well as to allow the project to be taken forward.

503 Responsive Studio brief 2, Meeting Feedback/Changes and Mock Up

Today is the final planned meeting for this brief with the group this is as the deadline is tomorrow, the final changes to the poster i produced will as well as any future work and ways the brief could be taken forward aft the submission. The submission boards also need to be made for the brief.

FEEDBACK -
-change colour of black text to fit with the colour scheme
-really like the final poster
-happy as a group with the outcomes
-shows our work off as group
-can see all our outputs
-type and pattern work really well to reflect the over all theme
-change bottle to cans on the can poster

final posters

The type for the campaign expresses a contemporary nature due to the san serif typeface used but then have edited to incorporate swirls and embellishes to reflect the heritage of the brand and portray elegance. The type aimed to be decorative but also very readable. We kept to the to the main typeface used by the brand the other body copy to fit with the existing branding style, whilst also making sure the poster design where legible.

The poster are a mix of contemporary graphic design layout yet also depict the campaigns defining features, the pattern adds a level of heritage. The background image is broken up by the strip to give a sold background to the imagery, this directly focus the audience attention on the products as well as the brands logo and design style.

beer matt idea -
At the final meeting after the final poster set had bee create an idea to make the campaign into beer matts as this will be given out at the distribution channel of the product in bars and pub we explored.  as a group experiment with different ways of applying the campaign to this medium, i created the final mocks up with group feedback.

final beer matts -

  slow gin beer matts

We created the beer matts again using the same design as on all out other advertising, we felt this was particularly important so that the consumers began to associate the limited edition ‘summer time’ print with the brand as a whole. We altered the colours of each of the collection depending on what we felt was appropriate and relevant.

Each can, bottle and beer matt has its own identity, in keeping with the ways in which our group viewed British summertime, A range of people and their individualities all coming together to celebrate the same thing with Greenalls Gin at the heart of the party.

The versatility of the camping design meant that applying it to the range of products was effective yet also easy, this demonstrates how the campaign could also be conveyed over a range if other channels, for example as as TV advert, as a bottle tag, as a shelve design or as part of case packaging. Mock ups allowed the idea to be visualised to the client, so the brand could see our idea for the campaign.

503 Responsive Studio brief 2, Poster Mock Ups/Work Combination

After all 3 of the design aspect where developed personally by members of the group the next step was to pull the aspect together as one final project and brief submission. As well as the limited edition packaging design we decided on creating a poster set for the campaign, this would be so the brand could be promoted and displayed around the product distribution channels for example super-markets or bar promoting the audience to take a preference to this brand and bring the brand to the target audience attention.

As a group we had outlined at the start the different parts of the brief we needed to work on individually so that we created a outcome that fitted with our personally strengths then combine these aspect as a group. One of the reasons we've decided to work together as a group was due to the nature our personal strengths and areas of interest/work so that we could all work on the different areas perfecting them to the best of our abilities. Splitting the group work out like this meant that the overall design would included all the groups work but with in a final collective style that works to elements together. The communication during the group work allowed for all this to be done but so that each member of the groups input was valid and used so that all the final styles worked together in collaboration.

Me - Type

Kieran -layout/branding

Kate - Pattern/illustration

After group discussion we felt the people illustration style didn't fit with the brands aims to be more modern and appeal to a millennial audience as well as with the visual style of the rest of the brief work

The final poster design had to be constructed from these main aspects, the finally steps was to apply them together to create a solo poster including all the groups different pieces as one outcome. Due to time constraints as the deadline is very close and other in the group having pressing work for the deadline this was done i did this. This was also set as my role in the contract as a was dedicated as the medium between the two different style and designer.

poster designs -

a restriction as a given outline from the client was the inclusion of their logo in all of the work produced for this brief
The final poster uses Kieran's layout design, Kate's print design and also my type as well as the restriction set by the client. The final work combines together to create a poster campaign for the Brand that represents British summer time via the patterns and refreshing design, the Greenall's past campaign research in the form of influences of colour and layout styles,  along with a poster that is a clear representation of all the group member's individual elements.

FINAL POSTER SET-
As a part of this brief we also worked on was create a summertime limited edition bottles and can designs this was then added to the posters to celebrate and advertising this other part of the campaign.
The poster design could also be easily changed to fit with the brand other product lines as seen for the slow gin version, this shows how the versatilely of the design a key aspect asked for by the brief.

There is one final meeting tomorrow before the submission final group changes will be made there and these shown to the group to get feedback on their opinion on the final posters.

503 Responsive Studio brief 2, Patterns Can/Bottle Mock Ups

Working around Issues

In the group meeting it was expressed that Kieran might not have time due to external issues do to the bottle and can designed which are a important point of the brief outcome which need to be one for the submission to tie the idea together i've done a few simple mock up. This is as the brief deadline is really close so the submission need to be finished for the deadline and i've got the photoshop skills to apply Kate design to the brief. I'm not overlay happy with doing this part of the brief but understand the issues that mean Kieran cannot do the work and as a group the work has to be done as it's so close to the deadline now, if i don't do this the submission will not be completed and the concept will be underpinned. This was done as not to pressure Kieran anymore.

Here photoshop used to apply Kate's patterns as a form of  Greenalls limited edition summer packaging, this is part of the outcome as this create a unique selling point for the client due to nature of the decorative packaging it stands out against it's competitors .

The idea is to create a new more elegant limited edition summer package design to reflect British summer flowers and the beauty of the summertime the British public is expose to. The problem set by the client is that the brand currently have do not have a way of standing out to millennial at distribution channels, this branding ties Greenall's as the gin of the British summer time via the design reflecting the elegant summery nature. The package creates a piece of design that the audience will appreciate aesthetically, want to show off or take out with them to social events or will want to share on social media due to the packaging.

pattern applied directly

applied around the union jack flag to fit with brand resticitions, made less opacitic to allowed the brand logo to still be present.

added a white outlined flower as to add a more elegant feel to the can design, this was and experiment as to add more detail without overpowering the original design as the other pattern was very bold it needed to be balanced out, group feedback stated that they felt it worked well to compliment the other pattern design and work to add light to the product.

development of the layout and amount of pattern that should be added without overpowering the current design, making sure the brand logo name and style is still visible in the product

reduced to a similar design as to add to the current design rather than to overpower, it needed to be a enhancement rather than take away from the current style design and branding product.

final experiments
The pattern design was kept quite simple, this was to make sure the original branding and union jack was very visible still on the range of product. The limited edition aims to enhance the current design but to still fit within the client restrictions whilst also not effecting the leibality of the text.

FEEDBACK FROM THE GROUP-
Feedback from the group on these packaging mock up was very positive, the group agreed it used the pattern Kate created well but also the inclusion of the white outline balanced out the design to add light to the designs. The group seem very happy with the mocks up as they fitted with wha we had envision so this means the next stage of the design process can be worked on as we can now visually show the client the concept applied to the current products.

Research into Greenall's showed the important of the brands being socially presence as well as this being a direct communication channel with the target market due to their daily use.

The design creates something the audience will want to photograph and share in the same way the brand encourage as it create a more unique fancy visually expressive bottle. the product will be limited edition as to create a new hype around the bottle every summer when it comes out.

After the level of pattern and style of patten which would be applied to the can packaging was developed to a level the group was happy with then the design could be applied to the main gin bottle. This was done to see if the pattern was versatile enough to work for the range of Greenall's products, the brief stated it was looking for a outcome that could work across a range of channels so making sure the outcome could be applied to all current and future product makes sure to fit this aim. .

503 Responsive Studio brief 2, Typography

My personal role in the group work has been set from the start as to explore the typography aspect of the outcome, this major part of the project is my responsibility and will for the body of my work for this project. In the recently meeting ideas, example and typographically inspirational research was discusses as a group, this was to to asses what style, type and colour we aimed for as a whole group rather than just my personal preference to asses what the group wanted so that the final type could reflect the visual style all the group members aim for.

The main aim we concluded on was decorative and delicate to reflect the brands visual style but with more comptemopary style via sans serif fonts and low x heights. The final type needed to be decrotive and expressive of the summer theme fitting with brief ideas but also very legible for the audeince so could be used on billboards, posters or other parts of the campaign.

Most of the type looked at was manually produced therefore brief sketches of a range of type styles have been created, this is to make sure that the type fits the style aimed for by the whole group before the in-depth development and work was conducted.

group feedback-

As a group we've selected the 3rd idea to take forwards as the type for the project, this is as the other type could be seen s too feminine in combination with the pattern designs. The group seemed really happy with the type sketches, this group work showed how useful it is to get feedback for different course and people working on the same project as personally i would have taken idea 4 forward but the group pointed out issues with the use of this type which in the end worked better for the brief and what the client aims for.

digital edits -

brand type applied, both typefaces are included in the branding of the client and in the current logo. Futura to reflect the comtenporay relevance of the brand and younger millennia target audience but Garamond as a classic British traditional representation of the brands roots.

feedback from group/others-

simple mock -
After Kate has designed and create the pattern for the brief it's vital the type and pattern elements work together as a final outcome, an issue with group work we discusses at the start was as we all had a range of different style the aspects of the design would not fit together as a integrated campaign. We worried that the outcome would we visually 3 different designers work that doesn't compliment each other to come together as a final project. To avoid this issue all the personally work produced will constantly be applied and compared as a whole rather than as separate aspects, work will have to be done to each aspect so that it bends to fit with the other members work.
