503 Studio brief 1 - Responsive, In Cold Blood, First Mock Ups

One of the idea for this brief was to visual reflect the accuracy nature of the publications information, the book is seen as the more true well researched crime book. This is due to the time the author took to produce the book along with the access to official document, interview conducted, and information surrounding the subject area. The book was made famous due to the research and time Truman but into the book before the writing process, as the brief aims to fine a style of cover design that fits with the language style and selling point of the book this idea was created.

The final mock up does look like a crime report but it's almost too accurate to the correct crime report as it relays heavily on the audience having heard of the murders and the details of the crime to understand what publication this is. Feedback on this idea was that it's too formal, and although this style would stand out against it's competitors due to the simple nature it would stand out for the wrong reasons sit's too boring. Feedback was that as the concept for this idea is very string it could be sued as the back of the book style instead.

The writing style is a heavy focus of the clients aim for the book cover, a feature of the book that makes it so clear and engaging for the readers is the use of a range of points of view. The book follows the points of view and storylines of the victims friends, the police and the criminals. This is one of the only true crime book that explores the subject area to this degree, therefore this is one of the reasons for the books success. This cover would reflect the 3 stories give by the different people  and accounts of the story, this would be very different as all the different genres of people would have different knowledge of the crime and point of view on the murder.

FEEDBACK -

Feedback on this idea was this should be explored more, the type should be made representative of the different areas and made to contrast more as currently 2 of the type faces are very similar.

research into book covers from this genre showed how the book covers can he heavily influenced by the imagery of the criminals.This idea takes imagery of the murders and depicts their death at the end of the publication. Both the criminals get hung therefore this visually shows this via digital college style.This was done in a way that didn't directly reflect the gruesome of the hanging as this could be seen as too dark but showed it via the use of broken neck photography and a illustrative rope.  

Type style and colour scheme are taken to reflect the 60's digital culture, to reflect the time frame of the book publications.

FEEDBACK - The view on this idea was that over all it's too casual, the tone of the book is very serious and ever when the type is changed to serif this still is lost, due to the almost humours nature of the hanging imagery the book is seen  to be slightly disrespectful of the death of the criminal therefore could offend so should not be carried on.
