these are the design ideas and simple sketches for the small publication brief, these are scanned n pages taken from my sketch book as i find this a more creative easier why to design. Annotation on pages.
The concept for the leaflet was a document that allowed the audeince in interact with it, had some form of involvement in the design that helped inform but also entertain, this is as the target audience is of a younger age they will be more engaged by a leaflet that they can connect with. Creating a leaflet that immerses the audeince of the traget market (6-10) will be hard as they wont be interested in reading mass amounts of text which is the normal form of information, therefore the idea of using the design/layout/fold/stock as a ways to teach is the theory behind this document, the aim was to create a book that used needed design elements but in a unique way that would link to the audeince age/reading level.
Idea 1
This leaflet is create using the Hexaflexagon style fold to show the different mixes of CMYK and how they mix together in print to create the colours produced. When the audience open this document they can see directly the infomation in the selected order the design leads them, they will be associated with the style of fold since it is a traditional method used in school playground as a game. This idea would have worked well for the theme but as there is 4 section rather than 3 in the levels of the first fold two of the colours never showed any overlap or could be connected and this couldn’t be changed as when the layout was altered the fold didn't work (unfold) in the correct way. It was a clear, direct, informative, innovative, easy to use idea that didn't use much text but as it was functional when tested it was useless for this outcome.
Idea 2
Another way the audeince could interact with the book is in the style of a flip book where the book is ring bound and the audeince can flip sheets of translucent colour over the top of each other to create the secondary colour. This book idea will show the audeince directly how the colour overlap and combine to create the secondary colour, they can move the order around to change the colour they create. It allowed the audeince to visually create the colours like they would with ink or paint but in clean environment. The book works the same way off over lapping colour like subtractive colour does in print. This is the book idea that we be developed further for the project.
