Wayfinding Systems - Crit Feedback Part 2

From the crit the main step the audience wanted me to follow was to try and mock up my idea for interior wayfinding -

These are the simple ideas for the fiction section, these include all the features available from my survey results of association into the genres to make it represent the genre more accurately.

obvious,
easily understandable,
gives a better over all appearance of the shop,
enhances visiting experience of the audience
clearly for all ages
stands out against the background

bad points -
distracts from books
overly colourful/complicated ascetically appearance
very bright, might put people off as it seem as the design seem too busy
immature overall look
seems like a children's book store because of natural association
who section may seem like children section as this is how they are differentiated normally
might be confusing between selected areas eg 'sci fi, science or travel, languages'
many make it hard to get the books of the shelf, signs are in the way this might put people off picking up random books/look more in detail into the books

Overall this was the most popular idea but after creating the mock ups and receiving feedback on them even though they look as aimed for there is too many issues with the actual physical aspect of the use sage, this is as these are the main point of wayfinding from my theory research this idea doesn't fit with -
-obvious from a glance what they all mean (clearly cognitive)
-use a constance house style on all floors, so it clear when on different floors where the direction are and the systems look the same throughout the environment
-not over complicated
-stand out
Also it obstructs from the audience taking books off the shelf, this is be a major factor to no using this idea as from the primary visit to the environment it is clear the shop is pushed for space to include the books already. The shop is very full and will need a wayfinding system thats fits int their existing space around the struct of the shop, this will work better for the symbols ideas as this is idea that will the best at different sizes, another visit to the environment will be conducted to see where there is is room for the a wayfinding system and this will need to be reconsidered.

OBSTRUCTS FORM PEOPLE TAKING BOOKS OF THE SHELVES THEREFORE ISNT USEABLE, COULD REDUCE SALES VIA PEOPLE NOT FOCUS ON THE PRODUCT OR BEING ABLE TO GLACE THROUGH RANDOM BOOKS AS IT CREATES A DISTRACTING BACKGROUND.

-books need to be the focus of the shop and the wayfinding just help guide the audience around
-symbols idea must be developed more as this one doesn't fit the brief
