Development (crosswater brief)

Development Work/Ideas

After researching our in depth brand the next step was to start looking at how to create a logo and a house style from this, we'll used what we've collected to help inform our choices and how we look at the designs as well as now we know our target audience which will be a big influence. i started looked at how to create a logo first from my text i got given, futura this will allow me to work with a type that i think first as a good starting point. We jotted down a few sample idea in the studio as a group and then went home to mock them up, this was hard as i cant use illustrator so i had to use photoshop and everyone else used the other. I need to learn how to use it before the next brief really.
Here are my simple quick idea

I've mocked down all my simple ideas on to one page to make it more suitable for the presentation, i have also included a few designs ideas that i've worked on.

Here the designs are clearer and easier to see, the layout helps me compare them as a group to see what works and what doesn't. The first design idea was very simple using futura text, but playing around with the O gave me a way to create a waterdrop using just the cut up W, we had to do it this way because we're not allowed to use anything other than typography. I thinking having to manipulate the text into the image/shape i wanted rather than just get the basic shape gave me a better understanding of how type can be used and how the text is build up, i looked at the forms rather than just the letters themselves.  The second design is a simple idea of crossing over the parts of the W to make a cross, this shows the idea of cross water whiles reflecting the name its self, its a clever twist on the name and how we could use it but i feel it looks a bit too young and wouldn't stand out to our target audience, it too modern and hip for our audience but i tested it with the waterdrop as well just to see if this classed it up but it didn't. i do defiantly like the colour scheme of this idea thought as it reflects our research into the company as well as looks elegant and classy. The 3rd idea was a style of design i liked so i thought i'd try and its free flowing like water, it free to show the waves of but i don't think it will appeal to my target audience as is to handwritten/vintage rather than futuristic which fits with the companies aim. The other design i did i really like so as a group we talked and assessed them, the last idea was based around the tap designs of the company but i feel the water droplet is too big, it doesn't work well with the ideas of the brief and it makes it look childish rather than for an adult company like my target market.
As a group we put all our ideas together and polly created these on illustrator, they combine the ideas and styles we wanted and then we can develop them more to create our final logo. These where done by polly on illustrator as i can't really use it yet, it allowed us to try out different styles more and work with the compositions of our designs better.
The logo we thought worked best was the lower case helevia 'crosswater' with the tap at the end and a water droplet as the full stop, this is a simple minimalistic way to show the company is a bathroom shop but also keep it interesting and obvious for the audience to understand its a bathroom shop from just looking at the logo/advertising products. Its a new current font used in many different modern designs so will be a great typeface to express our companies ideas and statements,  it reflects the company and will appeal to the target market. We will experiment more with the colour scheme and the ideas of the colour to make it work for this brief, theres a few different ideas of how we can changed the colours to portray our aims and fit the brief.

               Colours
Here are this the colour wheel we're experimenting with in our project, its pretty simple and most colour are taken from the website its self (their designs and work) which we thought would help make sure we show the style of the company as well as make it aesthetically pleasing.  Next to them is their photoshop/illustrator look up number so they are easily found.

After experimenting with colours on the logo we decided to go for a lighter blue because this works with newer designs, also i found out that after looking at different existing logos the ones that used the darker blue where more vintage classic designers as our company is very different to that we went for the lighter blue. we don't want to be seen as vintage or old fashion designs as it a futuristic luxury company. Also the pale blue works with the pale sliver ( taken from then stainless steal the company use in almost all their products)  keep the design modest yet interesting and the suitable will appeal to the older market, the who logo is very new and inspired by the design work the company do so i think it fits the ideas they want o show really well.

Finished Logo

After creating the logo for the company we had to create the same style logo for the different shops that are internal supporting companies, these needed a to be involved in our rebrand too. We just kept the same simple style but changed the font and edited in the same way, this created a relevant house style and rebrand that we can apply across the range of work and across the business.

The type has all been changed and manipulated to become in the same shape as the one of them main taps they sell, we used the forms and shape of this to influence  final logo shape and design. This keep its relevant and update with current trends as all the work they do is new and unique, one of the main thing we wanted to think about when designing the rebrand is the keep this as a vital aspect.

Extra text

This is the experimenting with other text underneath the logos on the website these different stores all have subheading, we've looked at all the different Vingellis type faces again as we where given these, we tested them all out to see which we preferred and which pairs we liked best. Having them all size by size gave use a clear view to chose which one we liked the best, it also gave use a chance to see if we wanted to mixed up the text for the different shops, we decided against this as it was a bit to immature and childish. We needed to rebrand the whole brand rather than selection off the stores as separate.

We decided on a serif font face, this would contrast with the main logo but as its serif add a degree of classic design as well as work well aesthetically together. The font being serif made the company look more professional and would appeal to a older audience, the contrast made the text stand out and be clear yet very interesting. The contrast shows how to company are modern yet luxury, they kept an element of the classic font but renew the whole logo to appeal to a more modern audience and reflect they modern work.
