-try to combine ideas?

As this book is style over content, the context needs to inform all the design ideas. If the context is busy/decorative then the layout should contrast this to draw attention to the content, if the content is simple the layout should add interest to the pages by being more complicated. Both aspects should inform each other, these are quick sketches and concepts i had for this book for each idea the context effects the design.

70's fashion/models
Book that is full of images taken by fashion photographers in 70s, it was a decade of high fashion change and this concept is to create a book that showcases the models/colour schemes/styles that were popular at the time.

Uses images taken at the time that are very bright/bold, the layout would have to contrast this by being overly simple/minimal but stick to using fonts created/popular in this decade. The book would be a modern twist on the 70's style by using images from the time, fonts from the time, colour schemes from the time but combining it with a more modern layout/grided style that would draw attention to the busy content without being to over powering. Make a modern fashion photography book but based around the 70's styles, not using the overly busy layouts popular at the time to add a more modernist twist to the book to make it work in the current market.

busy/bold images - simple layout

quick mock up pages

futura used are it curved, free text thats associated with modern theme so fits with the modernist layout but was also used fequently in this decade due to the circled termials fitting with the fashions of the time.

grid system

In research conducted into maybe book that include photos/bold imagery that is the main focus, one of the page is taken up with the whole image then the explanation is situated opposite. This grid is very simple and influenced by research into more modern books. As type is not the focus this has large amounts of white space, simple readable type, smaller size all to not distract from the main image which is the figure of the page spread.

LAYOUT - CLEAR, MINIMAL, READABLE

Record Sleeves
Record Sleeves design is a part of graphics i am very interested in, record sleeves are completely unique and different. One of the only design products that can be almost anything, the use wide range of different styles, print techniques, design layout, media to each one stand out. Due to this, this concept is to create a book that showcases my favourite/influential album cover designs. Make a personal collection of the album that have influence my life, to raise awareness about the song and artists. As each cover will be completely different this means the design layout needs to be versatile, needs to work for a wide range of colour schemes/types/images and enhance them. This means that each page will have to be very neutral, the colour scheme for the book its self must almost be black and white (or very simple) to make sure that all the colours work together.

picking a very different and vibrate topic like album covers will effect the design as it has to be very neutral, minimal but also interesting and modern. All aspect of the design will have to work for every cover, because of this it will be mostly influence by minimal/modernist designs and take this style.
