Studio Brief 2 - Information Design, Existing Research

EXISTING TONE OF VOICE

Research into the existing poster and adverts for TV licensing was very resurrected because the many adverts are all very similar, they all posses the same ideas, facts and tone of voice, this is because of the way the created aimed them to scare the audience with the idea that anyone could be and would be found. The set created in 2008 has the concept of personalising each adverts for the different city it was set in, this was to imply to the audience that they were focusing on that area, this implies that they are inspecting this ares in detail as it is ‘in their database’ this is created to scare the audience who may no have licensing because they will feel more victimised, more like they are being personally watched so will be found out. The tone of voice behind all the TV ads and poster collected for this theme is to SCARE, the company want to be dangerous and seen as powerful, to use the worry of the audience so they feel they will pay, so that anyone who is unsure/confused/not paying will start to. To remind the audience they will be found, to make them feel they are powerless to in-focus the idea they will be caught. This set of adverts uses bold composite text to reflect the idea that the company has access and uses high technology to find the audience, along with the hard, cold , emotionless colours the adverts seems scary and harsh, the idea is to seem unforgiving to imply there will be no mercy for the offenders.

The uses of capital letter again reflects this idea of harsh, strict rules that need to be followed aswell as to show how factual, strong yet unbending the law is, the text overall is very unfriendly and uses text associated with computers, databases to scary the audience so people are worried and feel terrified that they have the means to find and fine then. even the language used refers to the offenders as ‘evaders’ this word is uses mostly in films and isn't everyday dialect, this makes the word standout as the audience will see it as more threanting they associated it with sci-fi films and the danger because of this. The word is uses to make the offenders feel like they are evil, like they are committing and crime and that the good will over power them like in films and find them, this idea will make the audience feel even more like they will be found and then focusing them to purchase a license.

IDEAS USES
people think they will be found will buy on incase
scared people will react to the adverts and buy the license
it will worry people into buying one
makes the audience feel in danger
very negative scary tone
personal touch works
makes people feel vulnerable

EXSITING INFO

the existing information found on the official website for students has a more light hearted feel, its created to make student what to by the fine by showing them what they can watch with the license. It uses data and facts to appeal to them rather than scare them, this contradicts the rest of the advertisement they send out, its to show they want to inform students in a nicer tone but also make them aware of the facts.

TARGET MARKET RESEARCH

The next step was collect leaflets and flyer that appeal/are aim at the same target audience as these will influence in the design of the leaflet. To collect items as primary sources to see the house styles, techniques, font types, layouts, folding types, and how much information these contain i used the flyer and leaflets i received at the fresher fair at the start of first year. Using these is relevant as these were collected at one of the places that would be suitable for the distribution of my leaflet as it target the audience directly.

These feature of the leaflet can be applied to the design of the leaflet to make sure it appeal and works for the target audience.

these are the primary leaflet collected -

as little text as possible
as simple as possible

Looking at all the features of these leaflet has allowed me to think of a few idea for the layout and style of my leaflet, this will inform my design decision massively as these already appeal to my target audience so they contain ideas that can be applied to my design to make sure it achieve this.
