Before taking the photos for this brief the idea for the brief should be explored as this will influence the image taken, it will before the media used, development, style of image, editing. 

Restrictions
- no professional camera
- no aboard travel over the holiday(summer job, meaning can take too much time of to visit aboard)
- no photography knowledge

For this year the aim is to focus on advertising or poster style design, this will be chance to document different style of type used in advertising and ways of making type standout to a circumstance audience. Use this project to look at the purpose of type in advertising and too see how to circumstance effect this, see how the audience, budget, how it engages the audience but also communicated the intent information/fits the aim or how it doesn't and why.

504 - Design Production, A - Z in Content, Photographic Research

 Photographic Research 

For this brief the aim is to document an alphabet of letters found in specified context,  this can be in a specialist place or with a selected theme or with an idea. The letter have to be taken from existing text/writing/graffiti ect that can be found and appreciated, these will then be used in a future project . For this project the aim is to research in to the people who create the styles, why the text has been used, why it fix the environment, what it combated and how it works with the surrounding imagery. For this simple secondary research will be conducted to give a brief idea of the situations letters are found in, how people have done this brief before, how people have constructed an alphabet using found type which out it seem mundane and to give a starting idea where image for this project can be found before the theme is selected. This was to open eyes to where type can found all around, how this is created to communicated and the effectiveness of the type.

From this basic type in context research its made clear that type is used heavy in different areas and this type is all design to fit with the style of communication it is used to portray. The type style is effected by the texture, age, audience, purpose and budget of the type, selecting a space that this give a greater range of factors will give a wider range of text style which could be applied to the book. For this book type could all be similar or all be different, or a mixture but this has highlighter the main factors that effect the design of the type, therefore can help when combined with the concept with define the outcome.  

IDEAS - diverse type, similar type, type that target an selected audience , time from the same time, type from the same art movement, type with the same budget, type with the same texture/materials, type with different materials, type that differs completely.

This are project of the same or similar briefs that will show how others have interpreted this idea, how diverse the range of ideas that are available. Example to see how others have experimented with this idea to make sure that the solution to the brief isn't something already created and to give idea how to make the outcome more original. How to make the end result of this brief hasn't already been done meaning its a unique solution.

-wide range of materials, extensive colour scheme, wide range of type styles (san serif and serif, digital and hand) this is all due to the different factors that have effect the use of the text, all the type in there piece have been created to express something different, this means that the text all clashed with no common link seen by the outcome (but can the link be the area??) 
-time/movement around when created created effect the style of text used, type can express a time phrase

This secondary research has highlighted that for this brief type can be taken from almost everywhere, which any purpose but expresses a very different idea, type can be from any surrounding and this will inform the deign idea and concept for this project. Type is all around this can be documented via the project, finding the amount of type will not be the limitation of this brief.  The type theme could express differet themes

504 - Design Production, Pressision Printing Visit

Pressision Printing Visit

For next year module a heavy part of the brief will be the production, we currently don't have the brief but we have been told this. Due to this we have been sent on a tour round Pressision Print Press, This is a printing company situated near Leeds. 

This has been selected for a visit as they show how the production and the print of their work, which is mostly books or magazines can enhance the overall design of the outcome. They have produced a range of different project where the production features have been high conceptual, for example Criag Oldhams, In Loving Memory Of,this book is about miners and their deaths so the book has used ink with parts of coal dust to reflect this content.

Pressision gave use bag full of items they have produced, these include work for People of Print and FSTP. The items have been made better by the techniques available for commercial print, for example colours are fluorescent or metallic inks using stop color system. I was unaware this could be done on a mass scale before this visit as i thought these inks could only be used for screen printing, this visit has seen how most print techniques we can do at college or by hand can some way be done via commercial printing.

This trip also explain how the company is not working with white ink, this is a new ink that can be applied to as a base coat to give colours more pop or on its own, this is very high tech as most places cannot use white in, its rare to be able to print in white ink. 

Also this triped talked about Spot Colouring, this is were a selected Pantone colour is used in place of mixing CKMY to make sure the colour is always correct. This is used in branding or for brand work to make sure they achieve the exact same colour every time the ink is used rather than pre-mixing that can cause slight different variations.
