505 Design Practise 2 - Studio Brief 2 - Page Sites

Page Sites

The campaign now covers the range of different social media sites so the supporter can express their views in aim to communicate a range of diverse feminists which do not fit the defined stereotype as well as takes the form of a protest banner/sign campaign which communicate famous examples of feminist which do not fit this stereotype.

A current issue is there is no way to distribute these banners templates, filters templates to the audience so they can utilizes the outcomes. The need to be distributed digitally so they can be easily used/applied world wide as the supporters are world wide yet so the issue.

The most effective way to distribute these will be very creating social media pages where the supports can download and save the needed outcome. This is as these is this media can be accessed worldwide but also be linked/tagged to the campaign piece, so user can find ways to download the outcome direct from the piece.

-world wide
-direct link to the outcome

Also creating these page will create platforms where the range of support can be reposted on the site so the imagery appears more often/commonly. The pages posts will communicate the full range of feminists different to the stereotype as to combat the stereotype. The pages will be used to promote feminists who do not fit the existing stereotype, show the target audience their definition is incorrect by creating away of grouping together a mass of contradictory examples.

FOR THIS BRIEF THE CAMPAIGN NEED TO BE PROMOTED AND USED BY THE SUPPORTERS, THEREFOR THEY NEED A DISTRIBION CHANNEL WHERE THEY CAN ACCESS THIS

505 Design Practise 2 - Studio Brief 2 - Campaign Poster

Poster Campaign

Earlier on in for this brief the idea of creating a poster campaign based around male feminist was discussed and a few mock up created to show this but a crit feed back that the social media campaign based was a stronger idea to take forward as was a more direct distribution channel.

The brand guide lines have been created for this campaign which included a grid system, colour scheme and typefaces for any work created for this campaign outcomes. The social media site outcome have been created based of this common house style, this is as to keep the different range of medias uninformative recognizable singular campaign.

Protest March

After these media site where explored and fully covered by the campaign it was presented that the earlier dismissed poster idea could be applied, this is as to give the sites imagery to post as well as to create a campaign with would have non digital aspects as to target the audience via different channels.

One aspect of research for this brief was the Women's March, it's media coverage and the signs created by the marchers for this march which were highly publicized by the media. The women's march is an annual event but there are also many different marches being organized for feminist protest including on International Womens Day which are covered by the media heavily and post about also on social media channels therefor another distribution channel for this outcome would be these marches.

A poster/sign campaign could be created inspired by the past idea for protestors at the events like the women march and other protest to use as a sign of rebellion. Create a poster aspect of the campaign that can be used to at these events to raise awareness about the campaign to the supports so they share the campaign more but also to target the intended audience of the campaign who will be watching the media coverage of this Marches. WILL BE SEEN ON THE MEDIA COVERAGE OF THESE PROTEST BUT ALSO THE SOCIAL MEDIA COVERAGE.

visual research - SEE RED WOMEN

https://seeredwomensworkshop.wordpress.com/about-see-red/

'See Red Women’s Workshop was founded by three ex-art students in1974. We met through an ad placed in Red Rag — a radical feminist magazine — asking for women interested in forming a group to look at and combat the negative images of women in advertising and the media. See Red grew out of that meeting and a collective was formed producing silk screened posters for the women’s liberation movement as well as for community groups and others on request.'

See red is a group of women who create political inspired silkscreen printed posters promoting feminism with the aim of combat the negative images of women shown by the media. They've work thought protests, issues and attacks to carry on producing work they aim to change the perception of women give out by the media.  Their work is silkscreen based and is always manual printed therefor only ranges a few colours .

'Working collectively was central to the ethos of See Red, as was sharing skills and knowledge. Members belonged to women’s consciousness raising groups and were active in various radical and alternative organisations. In the early days the posters were mainly produced about our own personal experiences as women, about the oppression of housework, childcare and the negative images of women. We also produced posters for community and other groups, calendars, postcards and illustrations. For all our work an idea would be discussed, a member would work on a design, bring it back for comment, someone else might make changes and so on until the collective were satisfied with the end result; no one individual took the credit.

This was a concept many in the art world found hard to accept. Quality was important and many hours would be spent on ensuring that only posters that were well printed and produced left the workshop. Our first premises were a squat in Camden Town but after a brick was thrown through the window, See Red moved to South London and eventually to premises off the Walworth Rd. The premises were derelict and all the renovations were carried out by the collective or by women in the building trades. The work shop was attacked on several occasions by the National Front, from stickers to smashed doors, ink poured over the machinery, phone lines were cut and the mail pissed over. '

book research-

-keep it bold
-keep it simple
-few colours as more colour are harder to screenprint
-make a statement with the text
-use white space

Poster Campaign-

content -
celebrity feminist males quotes - as to show their support/contradict the stereotype by showing male supports
celebrity feminist males list - as to contradict the stereotype

restrictions-
keep with current brand guidelines
include the logo
keep it one colour, cheaper and easier to print for the support use
make it dramatic as to stand out against the posters
non violent/aggressive as no to provoke

The poster will be designed so it could be screenprint easily in one layer, this is the most cost effective, economical print technique that supports can produce themselves available. This also means the design could be applied to T-shirt or any other materials the supports aimed for.

as the aim to produce poster that can be cheaply and easily reproduce keeping to black and white ensures that these can be printed on any normal printer.

use negative space to draw attention, see red women research

signs at the protest are printed at different layout, some are portrait and some are land scape based on what the support finds easiest to carry therefore all the posters will be created in both layouts so the audience can pick.

helvetica or futura
futura is more bold and readable for afar, also has more curved forms which gives a soft theme to the type

aline the title at the left to be read first, make this the focal point.

make sure the logo can be seen

use the brand guideline grid system
white version was tested but at march this would easier get dirty and show the dirty

final poster set-

 Dalia Lama-

 Daniel Craig -

John Legend

feedback -
very bold so will be seen easily
good consideration for screenprint
no to aggressive due to typeface curved forms
fits with the branding as aim
very readable even from distance, which will work good for protest and being covered by media
open the audience mind to male feminist, which is effective for the aim
mock t-shirts up
the box around the text highlights it well
short and sweet statements
cannot be ignored
Daniel Craig is a good choice as many 'meninst' will look up to him
include the hashtag on the posters?
cannot be used negatively/misunderstood
MUCH BETTER THAN THE OTHER POSTER DESIGNS

mock ups showing use -
