602 EP - Girls Pocketless Clothing, Article Research

Article Research

How does the general public feel about this issue?
Why does it happen?
What the reason for?
DO PEOPLE CARE?

Initial Research -

'The lack of pockets on women's clothing is causing frustration on the High Street. While many people may find it hard to believe that this is a big problem'

'There was once a time when a woman relied on her husband to carry money and other necessities, so pockets weren't considered necessary.' - has pock-less clothing come from when a women used to rely on her husband only??

'Perhaps it's because of that old stereotype that every woman on the planet wants to carry a handbag at all times.' this no longer true, can this proven?

'"Pockets on clothing are a modern and ergonomic option for people with a busy life," says Jacqui Markham, global design director at Topshop.' "We always look to respond to customer feedback on our products and we have found the key is for pockets to be discreet and practical."
Marks and Spencer points out that its range already caters fairly well for the pocket-lovers out there."We offer our customers lots of choice, with plenty of options both with pockets and without. For example, around half our dresses have pockets," said a spokesperson for the brand.' is some brand are doing why are all??
Where has pocketless clothing come from? is it way women are being made to relay on men?Article published last year shows this a relevant issue. it's annoying again,

'If there is one thing women can communally agree on, it’s that we love pockets. We cannot get enough of them. Literally. We can’t, and don’t, get enough of them.'

'It’s not news to any of us that still, in 2017, women’s clothing either completely lacks the potential for a pouch or, even worse, has COUNTERFEIT POCKETS that inspire a millisecond of hope before crushing your dreams when you realise it only has a depth of two centimetres.'

But historically, women have always been deprived of pockets. And the reason why is disturbing. In a piece on Racked, journalist Chelsea Summers puts it most simply when she writes, "the less women could carry, the less freedom they had"

'"Take away pockets happily hidden under garments," writes Summers, "and you limit women’s ability to navigate public spaces, to carry seditious (or merely amorous) writing, or to travel unaccompanied".'

'Throughout history, women have had a complex relationship with pockets. Even now, countless articles have been written lamenting the fact that women's clothes rarely have pockets large enough to fit an iPhone - a piece of property almost every person needs to carry.

No pockets also means women need to invest in clutches and handbags - a strategy that earns the fashion industry more and more money.
Has this been done by the fashion industry to make more money? sell more bag? Fake pocket exist and this is very annoying for everyone. Article published this year shows this a relevant issue. It annoys a lot of people.

'Ryan decided that it was silly to think that clothing is sexist. This is probably because Ryan is a man and wears man clothes and hasn’t seen the difference in quality, durability and price which comes from shopping in the men’s section. As someone who wears her husband’s t-shirts more often than her own, I can attest that they’re better. Plus, men’s clothing just has a nice simple small-medium-large system. But, as the internet was about to explain, sexist clothing goes way beyond a higher cotton content and getting to buy stuff on the ground floor. It’s entrenched in history. Elizabeth May is an author and doctor of Anthropology. Earlier today she used Twitter to give a fascinating insight into how clothing and sexism have gone together like peanut butter and chocolate, but focusing on the topic of pockets.'

'So there you have it. These days we don’t get pockets because the ‘lines’ of a garment (read: how we look) are apparently more important than functionality. Back in the day it was so we couldn’t conceal secrets, but either way, please just give us some bloody pockets.'

-pocketless clothes come from men being scare women would keep guns
-now we don't have pocket incase they ruin the shape of the garment
-it's annoying for everyone
-purses are impractical too
-pocketless mean women have to buy purses
