505 Design Practise 2 - Studio Brief 2 - Femicide

Femicide

After looking at feminism as the over all arching concept for this brief this belief system covers a large amount of issues. The equality of all genders as the main principle of this ideology, but the issues it covers are issues where this is not seen. An of the issues feminist aim to protest and feminism aims to campaigns against is femicide.

Previous research has highlight as an issue with feminism is how some younger subjects feel there is no need for in now-a-day society. Some people feel that females are now equal to men, yet one of the main issues which highlights this is false is the world wide issue of femicide.

what is it?

'Femicide is generally defined as the murder of women because they are women, though some definitions include any murders of women or girls. Femicide has been used to describe killings of women by intimate partners and family members; it has also been used to describe gender-related killings in the community.

The term femicide was introduced in the last century to describe killings of women that were gender related in order to recognise the impact of inequality and discrimination, identified internationally as a root cause of violence against women.'

''-31 women are killed every hour in Argentina.

-El Salvador, fewer than 3 percent of these cases are taken to court.

-The type of femicide most prevalent in India is dowry killing, or the killing of a woman by her partner or members of her partner's family, because she wasn't able to bring a big enough dowry into the family. Then there is the killing of young girls, simply because they are not boys. This killing is also known as infanticide, and according to studies, 21 percent of girls between the ages of 1 to 5 won't see their sixth birthday. And, infant girls are 50 percent more likely to die than boys before their first birthday

-Femicide is considered the second leading killer of women in Honduras'

related issues-

As well as femicide there are range of different violent acts applied to women all over the globe, these are all very serious issues which seriously harm women daily currently, so the idea that feminism is not needed as in the UK and American we have equal rights is very false. Feminism aims to protest and support the banning of these issues for women all over as well as to provide help and support to the victims.

Feminism is seen by society and in the media as 'braless white middle class hairy lesbian' rather than the serious issues it campaigns against, this is a very big social issues as the mass portrayal of this believe system incorrectly reduced the amount of support/following the cases will get.

Feminism relates to very serious current issues but it not seen in this way this need to be changed. (ISSUE FOR THIS BREIF/SUBJECT OF THE POWERPOINT)
