505 Design Practise 2 - Studio Brief 1- Digital Development 2

Digital Development 2

feedback for the last crit was to take the illustrative style on further for this idea

These are the idea more defined ideas created or this brief outcome, feedback on the most effective will be consider so these can be screened printed for next week. The final design will be screened as to take advantage of the detailed nature as well as the accurate result. Most of the design ideas include some aspect of Chinese type which i'm unfimiallr with so will not know if it's printed incorrectly,  therefor as to make this as accurately printed as possible so the type is readable in the language this method was selected. This medium also means that glow in the dark and fluorescent  ink can be used in the final outcome, this fits largely with the light expression produced by the lanterns visually aspect at the festival therefor this very suitable for the final out.

idea 1 -

used the translation of festival name as to represent both cultures
this was checked by a Chinese reading student so is the correct translation

cultures overlapped as to show the coming together

made the Chinese type stroke as to allow the english type to be readable, will be a mostly english audience

poster with a black background as to represent the night time view of the lanterns
green ink would be glow in the dark, to revele the name only in the dark as to show how the lanterns only work in the dark
WOULD BE VERY HARD TO SCREEN PRINT
the overall tone this poster was seen as too harsh and mature due to the bold block back text, therefore this no representative of the playful exciting child aimed festival therefore was not used

idea 2 -

one of the lantern forms drawn out
picked a delicate no culture representative form as to not represent one culture over the other

more detailed added as to make more visually prominent

type added  to the poster in a playful manner to represent the tone of the festival
this poster was seen as non representative of the cultural aspect of the festival, the reason this festival attracted so much attention, what it taught, why it was unique and was celebrated therefore was not used.

 idea 3-

light green layer will represent glow in the dark ink

3 major forms of the lanterns represented
colour scheme taken for research
keep with pastels to fit with the lantern colour yet also research in Chinese and illustrative poster design

overlapped the 2 language translation of the name as to show the culture combination
also expresses Chinese theme/culture with out having to use works, represents this visually
mushrooms layer uses as to represent this part of the festival

Backgrounded add as to display the dark background of the sky at night but in a colour that will be able to screen print other colours and layers over as black cannot be screen printed over
orange background would be fluorescent/take advantage of the medium choice/more visually pleasing/makes it stand out/represent the light used at the festival, the glow of the lanterns

dots added to symbolise the 20000 light bulbs at the festival

as the bulbs glow, the glow in the dark in would be used to show this

more bulbs added as to represent the mass of bulbs used for the festival
experimented with the bulbs in dark blue ink as to set an overall dark background representing the sky
very busy poster, too much going on

english text made bigger as to be more readable for afar
need to be seen
more balanced out against the Chinese type now, more equal in size/show equal representation as the event

bulbs created by glow in the dark so they show the light of the real bulbs
