Initial Design Sketches
first idea - worry and imagine to create design based around the chemical symbols for the emotions associated with the title.
second idea -taken from the work i did in study task one where the feedback was the use of a man symbol worked really well as it was direct and clear, also related to the audience visual literary therefore this would be a good idea to design a set of covers related to this feedback.
first idea - to create a graph/chart of emotions that the audience feels when listening to each different song, this is so the audience can then work out which song is which as they all have very strong different emotional tones. Reflecting the tones will explain which sing is which without the use of the tittle or artists, this also allowed the audience to engage with the design as they need to work out/ think about each cover.
second idea - to again display the covers as a set but using ridiculous/stupid reviews or comments about each song to describe them, this is taken on the way artists some times include official serious reviews of newspapers ect. Changing it to stupid over the top reviews will make it humorous as the reviews will be fun but allows engages the audience but making them work out with of the songs is which from the reviews.
For the initial ideas for this cover there was a few
things that where experiment with, the idea of anxiety as a chemical/the
illness as this is the cause of worry and the medical reason we feel worry,
this will give the cover a way of expressing worry without having the use text
or the title and fits with the idea of relating the cover to the song. One of
the ideas was t use a quote that described the song, this would give the
emotional setting to the cover, express the feeing in the song via someone personal
opinion, this also is a abstract way of describing the music, it would cause
the audience to think and engage as they would be intrigued to found out which
song the review related to. A review found described the song as ‘gender
bending blue eyed soul’, this the could be link to the record sleeve theory
from before which states that record sleeves are more engaging to the audience
if they include facial features/faces due to the fact our eyes are more program
to be attracted to faces which will make the designs stand out on record sleeve
racks. Whilst researching into cures for worry, worry dolls where found, these
are dolls that parents give to children to take away their worries. Remove the worries
and take away the sadness but still reflects this sadness but in more positive light,
this is a abstract link to the songs title and main lyrics. One idea is to
strip down the worry doll so it cant take away the worries to reflect how the
artist feels as broken, use imagery of a broken doll to reflect heart break. The
3rd page of designs here reflect parts of the lyrics of the song,
linking t parts of the song to express the feeling via direct meaning or amore unique
twist, but making sure that the song is portray via the sleeve design so it
expresses the same depth/style. The last
page of design sketches focus on anxiety rather than the song, linking to the
cause of worry in indirect way so that the audience isn’t totally aware of which
song they are buying, created a sense of interest as it not obvious but then
when explained obvious. This thinks about the song in a original way which will
fit this brief as it need to think outside the box for these designs.
The over all concept of the sleeve is that the design
but reflect the calming nature of he song and use colours that are associated
with calming worry, colours and styles that reflect cold hard heart break but also
sadness as this is the theme of the song. The song is a very cold, hurtful song
that expresses how the artist feels once his partner has left him therefore the
colour scheme should reflect this ideology, be a colour scheme like greys, blue
and cold colours to reflect the style of calming yet cold emotions.
