406 Studio Brief 1 - Secret Seven, Hidden Message

After listen to this song multiple time it was clear that the phrase 'don't worry' was being used sarcastically, the artist was being sarcastic about how he was hurt but his ex partner was fine. telling her 'not to worry about him'  but he really is angry that she's left. How his world is falling a parts but she's fine, 'piece apart the piece you left' refers to the fact that now jacks work is in piece but 'let him worry' about it, how she seems fine but but he's broken. How she doesn't care or understand the pain he's in. this idea is to reflect how he really feels compared to whats he's saying, the difference between the emotions of anger he feel compared to the nice saying 'don't worry', he's angry with the parent but states this is a sarcastic hidden way that can only be worked out once the song listen to in full. This idea is to reflect the mention he feel but also how he's presenting himself, show the two sides to the song the actual and the implied.

To do this i will look a sticky style of illustration, a black and white cover that keeps the style simple to making the focus the context. To make the complicated idea of representing both feelings via a simple imagery, strip back the the cover so that it can be quickly understand and the focus is the meaning rather than the design. The cover will express a complicated emotional turmoil but in away that even a child could understand, this is mean that when the audience listen to the song they can directly understand the hidden meaning straight away, it give the audience a larger insite to the definition of the song and how the art its wants it to be interoperated.

For this cover a hand drawn cover style will reflect the piece as if artist has drawn the emotional turmoil expressed in the song, it will a cover that seem as he has created basically a brief summary of the song in the form of a cover. For this i have look at how art its used hand drawn imagery n their cover, how they use line and composition to add detail to the simple method of communication. To see how simple the covers can be but also how detailed this style can be, this shows that the colour scheme of black and white can work for any type of illustration style for album cover. These covers how that this style already existing and can be used to created great album cover even which just simple application of design.

this style of hand drawn record sleeve is used buy many indie bands, as jack garrets song would be classed as indie using this style with be seen as this category because of natural association. This style is hand drawn/hand rendered simple imagery of items/objects that links to the lyrics or the meaning of the songs.

The first idea is to reflex the different emotions that are expressed but compared to the hidden meaning of this song, to use the first as the speech bubble to relate it to the actual lyrics but the second as a thought bubble to express clearly in a child like manner that everyone will be able to to understand what the artist is really thinking. It will reflect how people act when they get dumped as they might say rehire fine but in reality they are nary with the dumper, this cover will show this as child like drawn that simplifies this complicated concept. To balance out the complicted idea wit the simple simple of communication retailing back to a style an audience of any age can relate too.

After creating the first design with the style i felt the style could be simply applied to the lyrics to achieve a cover that reflect the emotions in the song via a very minimalist design, for this i listen to the song an picked out the lyrics 'when my eyes are closed' then combined this with the idea of saddens and hurt expressed by the artist via the addition of a tear drop. This cover then again uses a internationally recognised symbol for sadness, this display the theme without the need for colour or words but can expressed this emotional state just by placement. This fits the emotions of the song with the lyrics to create a cover that links the theme with the song its self by the combination of simple imagery.

After asking for feedback not these cover the simple result i received from everyone was to try experiment ion with colour scheme for this idea, therefore i added a few different coloured idea to the design. The colour tested have no link to the song but will link to the idea of the piece being created for an exhibition was a piece of art, asking for feedback on these will show a colour scheme that people feel expresses this song and will also help me when apply colour to the other style.

The colour choices here are to bold for this song choice, its takes sad imagery and then constant this with the colours to represent the way the art its is expressing sadness via positive lyrics, its to reflect that here the audience has to look closely to see the saddens as it cover by the bight scheme the same way the artist hide the hurt via sarcasm. Hiding a emotion via upbeat lyrics and beat but when closely studied it can be seen. Also the amour of bright colour used where selected to reflect how people fee when anxiety take's over, how t dover powering bright and confusing like this design. The was created the confuse the audience as it has contrasting meaning ad a bright style that applies the same effect as anxiety. This doesn't used colour to calm the effect of worry but to increase them with complicated over the top power colour scheme and design.

After researching this style of illustration a lot of the covers include text, therefore i created these quick manual typgrpay example based off the them of the review, they celebrate and describe the song via the a review, it shows an opinion but expressed in this type but over al i fell this design is too simple. It reflect one persons views directly where as i the other idea using this review reflect it via the use of imagery without actually including the review itself, that add amore mystery to the cover where as this idea just seem too obvious, its a very clear idea but doesn't work for this brief in my opinion.
