After my first letter press experiment didn't work out as well as i wanted for this current brief ( secret seven) i decide to have a second try to see if i could work it better and create prints i was happier with then made sure they didn't smudged after i'd created them.
Example -
"gender bending blue eyed soul"
I used this quote for the cover designs as it the most obscure review of the song i could find, i want to explain the sing but in a way that wouldn't give the song away. Cause the audience to think about with of the titles could be reviewed as the idea and make them interested in the song before they by.
for this experiment i used a shorter quote with bigger letters, this was as i felt this would be easier to create whilst i got the hang of letter press. Bigger letter would be easier to move/arrange and the shorter quote would mean less spelling mistakes/ errors.
first test -
issues - the top bar was more forward than the letters so they didn't get covered in ink the bar did. to fix this i changed the bar for a smaller one that wouldn't line infront of the letters
second try -
prints
experiment with blue ink as well as sliver
over all review
These final prints worked out a lot better than the first set did, i feel this may have been because i placed the letter higher this time so the bottom was not cut off but this time i misplaced a b for d. Overall this has taught me that letter press looks amazing and i really like the outcome but i will need to practise more before i get the full hang of it, create some more experiments for other briefs using this style till i come out with a final out come i am happy with.
Mixed inks work really well to get a unique different print every time as they mixed different with every press, also metallic ink looks amazing due to the shine on the final prints.
