Kintsukuroi
lyric - 'Pick apart the pieces you left'
idea- Kintsugi (金継ぎ ?) (Japanese: golden joinery) or Kintsukuroi (金繕い ?) (Japanese: golden repair) is the Japanese art of fixing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum, a method similar to the maki-e technique.
link - Kintsukuroi is a method that takes broken thing and fixes in them in a away that makes them more beautiful, it takes the broken parts and fixes them together again using gold with over all makes the repair beautiful but allows the cracks to still be seen. The piece and the cracks are still clear but in a way that enhances them creating beauty out of an accident/damage. The link to the song is because of the lyrics 'Pick apart the pieces you left' this lyrics talks out picking up the pieces of his broken live/heart and trying to fix them to create a whole again, the song is beautifully tragic like the broken pottery, he's focusing on his broken part but turning them around into a beautiful song. This art form takes pieces that are left and uses them like the song does, turns something broken into something beautiful but so the cracks are still seen.
experiments -
Simple minilist style imagery. white space used to make the object the focus. Colours used draw attention to the gold as its only warm colour used along with the contrast with the blue,it stands out making the cracks/damage more noticeable but also more beautiful. This show that damage can be changed and moulded to create beauty which reflect the feeling in the song. the layout is simple to drawn eh attention to the object, this is focus and the link therefore its just simply displayed to make it the focal point.
too simple
-too complicated/busy for the sad song
-to trippy/livly front his song which main theme is sad
Experiments with close up versions of the pattern. Here the imagery is clearer and simper which fits with the flamer versions of the song, it fits the thistle of the beat as it loud and busy but not over complicated as its not to power because of the more obvious patterns and less detail. Its shows the beauty of the pattern in a style similar to some of the typeless research. This sleeve has a abstract feel because of the crossing unorganised lines which can reflect the broken piece but also how worry and aniexty/worry makes the suffer from confusing overlapping thoughts. This cover has direct links to the lyrics 'broken pieces' but also to the heart break theme/the idea the art its feels broken, its shows the song in a more positive light as it shows have damage can be changed in to something beautiful. its a very abstract way to connect to the song and as these piece would be a one time only piece that is displayed as a piece of artwork as well as a record sleeve this pattern is aetchically pleasing because of the soft colour scheme and the compliemnrtey patterns
-artistic (good for one of art work piece for this brief)
-colours and patterns work well together
-gold clearly seen
-reflects broken and piece (lyrics)
-direct link to research (typeless album covers)
-abstract
feedback -
'I really like it! Might be too complex too understand the concept though, maybe just the pot in the centre with some white space as opposed to a pattern' see designs above
'that's so cute Beth! I love it. I really like the concept of all the fragments being held back together with the gold. Plus it looks like a bespoke piece for an exhibition it is very unique. I like it a lot!'
experiment with more gold cracks added to see if this tippy style would work to reflect the movement of shaking as a symptom of anxiety and worry
-to trippy/livly front his song which main theme is sad
-more abstract
