Dutch illustrator Lennard Kok’s panelled illustrations and comics are wonderfully minimalist and witty, the simple line drawings are the style of illustration that i am interested in including in my book for the album cover. This is this style can group together covers of many different cover schemes, layouts and type and make they seem like part of a set, the style strips back the illustrations to the bare minim making them are clear as possible.
The simple illurstrations are then displayed in a gridded way that sticks to the theme of minimalism, keeping the attention on the illustrations and not the design, the design enhance them by keeps to the same style.Lennard has stripped back his images even more, using clean line work and stark details to tell the story. His one page comics are neat and eloquent, and often with a surreal edge.
This is a style i will look at when creating my book as i fell this simple layout and tone will work with the busy over complicated different styles of the record sleeves, this will make them seem like set and fit them together without having an overly busy design book where the design aspect of the sleeve is lost. The style highlight the beauty of the illurstration but showing just that, it removes everything else to just show the basic lines and i feel this will work for my brief as it can highlight the beauty of the designs to make the audience notice how which our any flash colour ext they are still amazing. Drawn attention to the ideas behind the design themselves to make people appreaticet the designs even when redrawn.
