406 Studio Brief 3 - Collaboration Brief, Ambigrams

Ambigrams

'An ambigram is a word, art form or other symbolic representation whose elements retain meaning when viewed or interpreted from a different direction, perspective, or orientation'

'Ambigram a word or words that can be read in more than one way or from more than a single vantage point, such as both right side up and upside down.'

An ambigram is a word that says/means different things depending on which way it is view or looked at, for this brief we had an idea that relates our project to 'reflection' . Reflection/reflect is a main concept that as a group we seem to have selected to use in our branding and exhibition advertising, this is to change peoples views on money.

The idea is to keep the exhibition subject a secret till opening night then on the night change peoples views on money and the way its designed. After completing one research into money and how people feel about money we found that the general public have a very negative opinion of money and around the subject of money, for our exhibition we aim to change this. To reflect the beauty of money and the detailed of its design to celebrate it, therefore reflection become a theme we wanted to experiment with. Ambigrams are words/phrase that relay on reflection to mean different things, because of this i felt they were relevant to this brief. Fr out logo or for part of our design work we could create an ambigram using the subject and this would work with the theme.

Ambigrams relate to reflection and our theme/this concept so they may be relevant to use in the work we produce.

Ambigrams Generator

Online there are lot of ambigram generators, these allow me to create simple ambigrams quickly to see how i can relate this to my work. These are very quick version of the websites i used and images of the ambigrams  i created to see if this style will work for this brief and to see how if these are the style of minimalism we wanted before i spent lots of time creating them myself.

after creating these i feel that the text they used to make it so they can be read backward and forward give a slightly scary/alien feel, this is at the fonts available have curved bowls and weird bends to make they readable rom both directions but this effects the over all visibility and liability of the word. They work to be read both ways but its hard to read and wouldn't work from a distance, also since the fonts/typeface has negative associations this would give a negative effect one people visiting the exhibition.

TYPE IS OFF PUTTING/TOO FUTURISTIC
NOT VERY LEGIBLE
WONT WORK FROM A DISTANCE
TYPEACE NOT SUITABLE FOR THIS BRIEF/OUR AIMS
