504 - Design Production, Design For Screen, Brief

Brief

The brief of this design production module is to create an immersive and engaging screen based user experience for a media , this could take the form of any of the following- website, app, streaming service, title sequence, ident's, onscreen graphic overlays, etc.Unlike the last brief this has to be produced for onscreen use only, these means the final output must be a digital production.

The main area to keep in mind and built the project around are
-The client, who is the final outcome created for
-The problem, why this needs to be design, why is being done
-The target audience, who its being aimed around
-The overarching aim of the project, what is being to achieved

This project must deliver a world class digital experience that engages the audience combined with research and work into how to maximise the potential of digital devices eg phones, ipads, computer, laptops. This project must be global as most modern digital formats are viewed on a global scale, this must inform the approach and design decisions. A combination of image, audio and video should be used to communicate the final output, this will be learnt in the after effect workshops.

areas needed to be considered -
The processes and procedures involved in designing for screen.
The relationship between designer and developer.
The role and skill set of the developer (and where you would find a developer to work with)
Research (what already exists in the design field, what works what doesn't, how innovative can the output be)

WORKING PROTYPES OF VIDOES NEED TO BE PRODUCED FOR THIS BRIEF

first ideas -

group mind map

interfaces available/suitable for this brief  for personal experience-
TV sites that could be redesigned - make it easier to use, skygo ect
Websites - Email/hotmail is annoying to use/hard to negotiate, flickr is annoying when it upload images in the incorrect order, BLOGGER/ESTUDIO are terribly hard to use for personal experience,

areas to research
- LOOK AT APPS PEOPLE DELETED? why? what causes them to be deleted? user friendly?apps that replace them? issues with apps?
-POPULAR APPS, why are they better? why are they popular? user friendly? target audience
-MOST DOWNLOADED APPS, common features, uses, issues, purpose
-APPS FOR THE SAME CONTENT, apps that use the same subject, how to make it different/innovative
-WEBSITES/APPS WITH THE SAME TARGET AUDIENCE, how it designed to be used by them, how does this influence to use/colour scheme ect.
-FAMOUSLY BAD WEBSITES/APPS, why are they terrible, why does everyone hate them, they are they so bad.
-WEBSITES/APPS MADE FOR BIGGER COMPANIES WILL HAVE BIGGER BUDGET, smaller companies websites might need redesigning more due to funding cost/might not have a designer
-WEBSITES THAT REFLECT THEIR PRODUCT/IDEAS, how? how does the design show this

main current ideas

MUSIC LOCATION APP
issues - no app that allows the audience to see gigs avabilabe off their personal music choice or when the band they like or touring
Create a app that allows the user to now about events, gigs, places to by music and musical related historical facts based of where they are. The app will allow users to make their own playlist using a tinder style selection of tracks, get a set playlist then they can remove tracks by swiping left, the app then only adds tracts to the playlist that relate/link to the tracts that are kept. This link the idea that the target audience will be used to using tinder (the most popular dating app) therefore be aware of how it works so this gives them an easy way to make personal selected playlists.

the benefits of this app which makes it stand out from Spotify -
customised playlists,
it allows the user to see gigs the artists they like are playing,
when they can see them in the area,
what bands are playing tonight in their areas,
gigs in their area in the upcoming weeks they might like of their music selection,
can see where they can by records/tickets from,
tracks that relate to their area, so bands that are from that places,
pops up with songs wrote about the place,
historical musical places they can visit, eg where songs are wrote/bars song writer wrote songs,
musical venue or bars to visit in the area,

STUDENT TRAVEL APP
issue - student cannot find cheap night or cheap bars in new cites
Create a app that uses the location of the phone and shows cheap place/student bars/bars/club in a unknown town to visit around that area. Allows students to find place to go with reviews from other students as well as images, discounts available on the selected days ect. Links to facebook to show events/gigs that are on that night the audience might want to visit. Combination unidays, google maps and bars.

MAC MAKE SWATCHES APP
issue - cannot see a up shades on different skintone or make up shades at all.
-mac current websites doesn't show shades on skin, products look different on different skin tones, unuseful swatches, cannot see shade of make up, only used to restock existing products, not testers/way to see it.

images taken from http://www.maccosmetics.co.uk/ -

Cannot see lipsticks on different skin tones as it will look different, cannot see the shade in use, cannot see the finishing of the shade, cannot see the colour accurately just as photoshopped different image, will look different on screen than on person, no list of what lipsticks matches what shade of foundation/undertones
source : http://www.maccosmetics.co.uk/

gives the colour jus on a white base, cannot see compares to skin or example of real life use, only useful for reordering already tested samples, need to go in store to purchase accurate colour

cannot see skin tones or see this foundation on a human base, not useful swatches

Examples of swatches found on google images -
this is an example of swatches of the lip colours for mac makeup on skin, this is more accurate to the colour the lip shade will come on the customer therefore  more useful image that the ones on the sites, this shows how the product will look on skin when used, this could also been done on different skin tones to see how it works/looks source : http://www.themistymom.com/2014/09/mac-lipstick-swatches-reviews.html via google
REDESIGN WEARECOW APP/WEBSITE
issue - doesn't reflect the brands identity or style
the current website and app for we are cow a vintage clothes company, the problem with this design is ti doesn't reflect the theme or feel of the shops neither does it sell the product in the best way possible compared to the instagram page which sells the items in better style.

home page, fun imagery taken but with a boring layout/style based of american appeal website even thought the brand are drastically different

washed out white background imager, the clothes are picture like for any other clothes shop but these don't sell or appeal to the target audience as well as the images on the instagram pages for the brand
we are cow list, very similar to american appeal modernist serious boring branding style that doesn't fit with the brand theme or design.

american appeal pages -These images have been collected so they can be compared to see how similar the websites are. These are shots from the american appeal websites even thought the shops have different clothes choice, price range and target audience the layout/design is very similar, this will give we are cow  very commercial look which the shop aims to fight against heavily as its not fitting with their image/concept for the other designs/art/layout/shop style.

For this brief the aim is to create a user interface for a selected problem/issue/company/brief, for this a few things need to be kept in mind when selecting a problem to pick. This is as the brief will be an area of study uncommon and out of my personal comfort zone, therefore to make it interesting to design personally to me it need to be a subject that i will be thought provoking for me personally so tat the brief keeps me thinking whilst allowing mw not to become bored with the brief. We get to design our own brief for this project therefore i should make sure its a subject area/idea that i'll be interesting to learn about/make/design throughout the brief so that its doesn't become a monogamous task. MAKE IT INTERESTING TO ME PERSONALLY.
areas of interest:
-clothes
-music
-art
-collage
-posters
-postmodern
