This was the first group meeting as a whole group where we shared our ideas for this project ideas, the meeting was for discussing first idea for the brief as well as writing up the contract. This was a chance to express our idea to get feedback on which the other member felt work and which didn't, also which ideas would work best for our personal skills so which bit of the project we'd focus on as individuals.
idea discussed
-British art and editing British paintings depicts the people drink Greenall's to show it's been a famous gin over the last 250 years
-create bottle inspired by the botanicals in the gin, use these to create a special edition bottle or design, this idea would should the making process of the gin, back to the roots taken from brief
-inspired by famous albums, create a range of bottle or packaging that uses imagery from the albums, (could be overly complicated for a bottle design)
-as a gift as a apology, British people apologies a lot, the gin would design as a gift to say sorry, (might put off new old customers, is it a toto big gift/expensive to say sorry, slightly depressing)
-'you've been frames' adverts clips from you've been frames with a campaign 'greenall's making Britain funny again' ect link to the humour aspect set in the brief, also a moment people remember watching you've been frames with the family (could this to be dark, supporting drunken mistakes/injury)
-flower idea in more detail, a range of bottles or a special addition bottle based around the flower found in the uk would raise money for a flower trust (could this to feminine), represents the British summer times, what people see at bbq and pinics.
-bee/national trust idea, this idea to create design bottle based off dying animals in the uk or to give a percentage of the donation to the national trust to help this grow. (could be a too deep issue for gin)
-celebrate shit British weather, never mind the weather it's a good day because of greenall's( not a celebration of British culture, negative)
-illustration drawn idea, a range of bottle drawn by famous illustrators/British artist where people would recognized their style and buy it a collector item. (to childish, might mess with the brand style too much greenalls have outlines not doing this)
swaying towards a special edition bottle/campaign
As me and Kieran both work in bars which serve a range of gins and alcohols this primary knowledge of what promotional ideas works best as we discussed was usually when the audience are getting something as part of the promotion as this motive them to buy it for example a new specialists bottle design or a new beer matt, or a different straw or anything decorative or that enhance the serve therefore the drinking experience different for the audience is usually more popular than just a stand alone poster design. For this brief the brand want to promote mostly the bottles in a store therefore this need to be applied to this situation. GIVE THE AUDIENCE SOMETHING NEW, ENHANCE THE EXPERINCE VISULLAY IS POPULAR
After discussing the as group and reading over the brief together fully it was decided that the best way to take advantage of the skills we had in the group and to fit what the client wanted, a new way to promote to a new audience celebrating British culture whilst sticking to the criteria the brand wants to keep the same and promoting the brand would be via create a special edition bottle design or packaging built into a campaign. This is design that would make the brand appear more elegant or special as products yet wouldn't effect the brand the branding as very happy with. This would give the product a stand out feature making to grab the attention of a new audience on shop selves via the new interesting special/limited edition bottle design.
bottle -The bottle could then be given as gift or kept due to the design rather than be thrown away like the normal bottle and the idea it's a limited addition . Also a new limited addition bottle would work for the target audience as they would share the design on social media sites due to having highlighted this heavy interest of this audience, create a bottle design they want to share.
The current bottle design have association with a cheaper more everyday gin, to sell to this audience of millennials who age range is 19-36 which means they will have a slightly higher disposable the brand need to appear more elegant/classy rather than cheap therefore the special addition redesign would allow this without changing the feature of the brief the client wanted to keep the same.
campaign - a campaign would then be built around the special addition bottle to promote it, this would use the design style in adverts/posters, on bottle neck tags, on beer matts, on packaging, or shelves in stores, this is to fit with the brief as it's say the piece of creative need to work across different channels. the twitter + facebook pages background could be changed to with the limited edition. create a design which can be used for load of different things.
for next meeting -
The special edition would take on a theme decided later in the next meeting, for the next meeting our set tasks is the think of 3 more developed ideas that we can then get feedback on from a wider range of people as well as group to make the final decision. Also find research into other special edition campaigns/research.
the next meeting will be in a few a week on Friday as Kieran is in Berlin next week
