The main attraction and features of the event are the Lanterns The Magical Lantern Festival displays items which feature lanterns as wide as 20 metres. One of the main lanterns is the dragons the length of three buses, along with 30 other giant handmade displays made with 40,000 light bulbs.
The lantern are hand made in china then brought over to the UK for the festival. For this brief the final outcome has to be hand printed therefor this medium fits with the hand made aspect of the festival, it reflect the time and care taken to put the event together.
As the lantern are the major design aspect of the festival these should inform the design and production of the posters to reflect this as much as possible. The lanterned used in the event are different variation of traditional paper Lanterns created out of vinyl as to resist the weather, therefore this is the focus of the print.

why are they there? to represent the culture, show and inform the western world about the style of traditional/culture, take the 2000 year old festival to the UK

IDEA - As the lanterns are created out of vinyl this material will be explored, can it be printed on? can it be cut to size? will it work for the exhibition?
After research vinyl sticker can be cut out and vinyl can be printed onto but only digitally which cannot be used forthis brief outcome as set in the brief. in college as the vinyl screen prints would take to long to dry/might not ever dry therefore this medium cannot be used. http://forums.mrprint.com/archive/index.php/t-659.html
As the vinyl cannot be used for this brief paper will be used to mimic the original material the lanterns would used if they did not have to be weather proof for the festival, this material represents the Chinese roots and the original material used for the first lanterns.
Lanterns have bulbs inside which causes the different shade and colours of light to be expressed in the displays. The lanterns glow/express colour and light therefor this show be explore in the poster design as to reflect this element of the festival.
