For this brief it is vital that the final printed note it not a digital printed piece, these is a brief specification because of this there are a few ways i could print the note
-mono print
-hand drawn/rendered
-screen print
-letter press
-etching
-lono print
Whilst developing the note design it became quite clear that the design i would produce would be digital made design with a large amount of detail, because of his i decide to screen print the final design. I decided this quite early on into the design aspect because anything of the other methods would make it harder to produce a design that involved overlapping layers with accurate text.
-Mono print would have been an option for the pattern design as it doesn't need to be reproduced, mono print is different every time but this would mean the back and front would be slightly different and also it would be hard to produce a illustration this detailed using mono print.
- Etching/lino all the different lines and overlapping colours/accurate patterns would have been almost impossible and taken a large amount of time when the brief deadline is very close.
-letter press isn't available in the different language
- Hand drawn wouldn't fit twitch the modernist design style of Chinese graphic design, it would make the note seem more like painting and therefore is suitable to fulfil my aims.
Also there are many pros to using Screen Printing; however, the main advantage is the unique visual result it creates. The inks used are very durable, the colours are extremely vivid, particularly for outdoor uses, making this a unique reproduction technique. The fact that it can be used to print on a very large variety of materials and objects, and that there is a large amount of special inks , are all factors that have helped to establish Screen Printing as the optimal method for creating products with particular features. This is a very flexible printing technology, with no limitations on the thickness and nature of the material on which the printing will be carried out.
Screen Print Set Up
For screen printing to screen to be exposed to the design the layer of different colours need to be separate and made fully black. The layer will then be printed in a block colour over the top of each other to create the print. These are the set up layers that i will expose for my screen print designs.

After creating the screens we can leave then at uni for up to a week to print with, long if we need therefore this give a a while to decide and experiment with different colour schemes for my note. Now the screens have been scripted it easy and quick to reprint the different designs, it takes awhile for the exposures screens to be created but then they can be used multiple times and in different ways so i can experiment more.
Things that i will experiment with -
different overlapping layers (different order)
different stock/paper used
different ink colours
different specialist inks
