504 - Design Production, A - Z in Content, Page Layout

Indesign layout

The indesign document for this brief will be created so the pages are all the correct size, with the margin (removing the space taken away via the binding method), full bleed. This will allow the pages to be printed as a booklet whilst make it easier for it to be mass produced as most printing companies use this software. The design of the book pages will be done on photoshop as this allows the most control of editing photographical documents, then the pages will be save as either tiff or PSD files so they can be included into the indesign file.

The page structure of the book will be facing pages 30 pages including, in order front page/cover, blank decorative page, dedication, blank, contents, content pages (23), index (2 pages), acknowledgments, blank decorative page, back cover. This indesign file will be set up as this document, with each page made so ti can be design as a booklet with all the pages taken into consideration making it easier to directly design the book as whole with the blank or coloured pages included. Then when printed to reduced cost it will be printed in range from the page with first ink/information which is the dedication page (page3) to the last acknowledgment page (page 30)

size =7x5 with a margin on the left for the binding at 2.5 cm
margin all around = 5mm
full bleed, 6mm bleed

ISSUE-

A major issues when design the inside pages of the book at this size was that the images couldn't be seen fully, it made the images cropped due to the size of the binding space taken up. This meant part of the images where lost, the images where not fully represented in the book at their true size, or full of their total content. The size of the book was picked so that it could represents the images via the size but this obstructs the over all imagery being therefore loses part of the content. This caused issues when designing as the images became even more blurred and messy but this had a negative effect as the image effects due to the media was lost in the edit. quality

SIZE DOESN'T ALLOW FOR FULL IMAGES AND MEANS IMAGES NEED TO BE ALTERED BIGGER. REDUCED THE IMAGE QUALITY.

To avoid these issues , the size of the page has been changed to so the page seen by the viewer is the images in full, the corect size can be viewed, so the overall size is the photo with the boarder for dining added on the left side.

new size - 6x4 +2.5 cm margin for binding
 6 inches (15.24) + 2.5cm = 17.75 cm

applied to the book indesign document
The photographic content for the book now fits within the viewable page so the images can be full bleed and correct size .

NEED TO PRODUCE A BOOK TEST OF THIS SIZE, to see if this effect the binding or any other features, do a mock up of this size with black and white printed imagery.
