Design For Print Indesign

Different ways to set up document for different binding methods, how to use indesign for these method and how to make sure the system knows the style of book being created.
facing pages display the layout as the pages, the page spreads set up. So what cerated prints as it will be made. Columns and margins can be used to add guides. DOES MY DOCUMENT NEED FACING PAGES??OR IS THIS FOLDED PAGES?? talk to printing guy or after the session.

Binding method need the side margins pages changed, for example Japanese binding will effect this, therefore this should be worked out. This has been done on indesign for the pages of this publication as every page loses 2.5 cm.

When setting up a document the bleed should be discussed with the printed, this and other items should be talked about so it fits with the printing process. 3mm is the average bleeds, more or less may be need for trimming ect. This should be done for any commercial jobs.

The faces will automatically set facing paces as reader spreads, this is the pages are put together in the correct order for pamphlet binding.

NEVER EVER SCALE TO FIT

Saddlestitch binding - for this binding pages need to be changed form reader spreader to printer spreads,  go to file>print booklet

Default term is saddlestitch, go to print setting next

ALWAYS TICK PRINT PAGES WITH BLANK CONENT
for this binding the pages need to be a multiple of 4, cannot print on all of an A4 as theres a non printable strip therefore cannot fit 2 A5 on a A3. Crop marks and binding always need more space.
A4 pages needed to be printed on Oversized A3 or A2, this can only be done in digital print.
SHOUDL I PRINT ON A3? OR A4? WHAT WILL FIT?
-for this binding is double sided, so centre content
-need crop marks

then click, printer>show opitions

-for this binding select long edge binding

the check on the preview to see if everything has worked ok, if there isn't enough pages the can be added after as a message will com up, preview shows errors easily

-these pages just need printing and binding now
this book will be 16 pages thick, there is a limit for pamphlet binding, it recommended not to go over 8 sheet of paper as otherwise it messes up the pages. For a book more than this, smaller individual books need to be produced that attached together.

MORE THEN 32 CANT DO PAMPHLET.

signature binding - to file >print set up >ranges, change the setting so they can only print the selected pages for the booklet for example 4 booklets would be done 1-16, 17-32, 33-48, 49-64.

separate pages/perfect bound - change the booklet type to 2 up perfect bound, this is still a folder sheet so not suitable for this publication.

2 up = 2 pages next to each other
3 up = 3 pages next to each other

Standard Perfect Bind/ Japanese - DO NOT PRINT BOOKLET, JUST NORMAL PRINT
-SHORT EGDE BINDING
-CENTERED
-CORP MARKS
-BLEED MARKS
this is the method for my printing, test this first, it allowed pages to be printed as single pages rather than as a booklet, so double sided but as the booklet style needed.

Do not just JPEGS in indesign, save as tiff files as the image quality is better. Lose quality every time you save a JPEG.

Changing resolution do not tick resample, changing height/wight/size do click.
